The build

A bare van, a pandemic, and a year of learning carpentry, plumbing and 12-volt electrics.

In 2020 I bought an empty van and turned it into a home: bed, kitchen, water tank, solar panels and a 12-volt system I wired myself. It was the flashlight from school, scaled up to a house. The build log, with photos, is being assembled from the archive.

The road

September 2021 to December 2023. Nine countries, from Ushuaia to Virginia.

Brazil first, then Uruguay and Argentina all the way down to Tierra del Fuego, Chile, back up through Brazil to Acre, then Ecuador, Colombia, then Mexico, and the United States from Texas to Virginia. The van’s tracker logged every stop; the simplified route is the red line on the globe.
